Job Title: Camp Nurse
Reports To: Executive Director
Number of Positions Available: 8 (one per week)


The Camp Nurse takes a lead role in our campers and staff health and safety.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide care to campers that reflects the standards and guidelines of the Hockey Opportunity Child Care Practices.
  • Ensure that safety and health regulations are strictly adhered to.
  • Supervise the Health Centre and medication inventory.
  • Assist with the general camp community as time permits.
  • Sign and abide by Hockey Opportunity Camp's Privacy Policy.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review all medical forms before check-in day to discuss current and potential medical needs with parents.
  • Assist with Sunday camper check-in at the Health Care Table.
  • Provide appropriate staff (directors, kitchen, hockey, counsellors, etc.) with special health needs information and directions.
  • Maintain established policies and procedures for the health centre.
  • Administer medication to campers as required.
  • Maintain a daily log of campers & staff who receive medical attention.
  • Work with the Health Care Coordinator on any medications that need to be restocked/ordered.
  • Learn emergency procedures for the camp community. 
  • Assume a leadership role in the preparation, execution and follow-up of Emergency Response Procedures / Crisis Management as requested. 
  • Make sure all medications are organized to hand out at Saturday check-out.
  • Keep the Health Centre clean and orderly.
  • Manage and work with the Health Care Coordinator/Support with daily, bedtime and evening routines.
  • Assist the rest of the Health Care Staff to ensure that campers and staff with specific medical needs are properly cared for.
  • When required, travel to the arena to assist hockey staff with any medical or first aid issues.
  • Handle first aid and medical problems as they arise.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD

Employment Period: One week during our eight-week summer.


QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Ontario Nurse’s Registration Card.
  • Minimum five years of nursing experience.
  • Valid G driver's license.
