As an integral member of the HOC Senior Staff Team and Health Care Team, the Health Care Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and overall well-being of all campers and staff. This position supports the smooth transition between weekly health care teams and serves as a key resource for campers, staff, and parents throughout each session.  They provide guidance and assistance to ensure that all campers’ basic needs are met, oversee wellness routines, and help manage any health concerns that arise during the week. The Health Care Coordinator also mentors and collaborates with the Health Care Support person to ensure that all Camper and Staff Medical Health Forms are completed accurately and submitted on time.

This role involves active participation on HOC’s Emergency Response Team, responding to incidents with care, composure, and professionalism. The Health Care Coordinator maintains clear communication with parents and healthcare staff, supports transitions between incoming and outgoing medical teams, and helps ensure continuity of care.

Above all, the Health Care Coordinator upholds the values and guidelines of HOC’s Child Care Practices, ensuring that every camper feels safe, supported, and cared for, contributing to a positive and nurturing camp experience for all.

DAILY/WEEKLY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Role Specific Responsibilities 
    • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Health Centre, maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment.
    • Coordinate transitions and briefings for weekly health care teams to ensure continuity of care.
    • Support the Health Care Team with Sunday camper registration and health checks.
    • Assist the Health Care Team with camper medication delivery and general medical support.
    • Work with the Health Care Support person to ensure camper and staff health forms are completed to a high standard, all profiles are accurate, and locked before arrival.
    • Provide professional and compassionate first aid and daily medical care to campers and staff.
    • Support the emotional and physical well-being of campers and staff throughout their stay.
    • Flag critical health information (e.g., anaphylaxis, dietary restrictions, medication needs) and communicate this to relevant departments such as the kitchen, counsellors, and instructors.
    • Act as a resource for teachers and group leaders during Spring ECOC programs, assisting with health-related needs while respecting teacher-led medication protocols.
    • Maintain the Health Care email account, responding to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding medical questions, missing forms, and health updates using designated email templates and policies.
    • Maintain detailed medical logs, record all camper visits, and update digital health files through the Campsite system.
    • Archive health logs and follow-up forms weekly in coordination with on-site nurses and the camp office.
    • Collaborate closely with the Health Care Support person and the Directing Team on health-related updates and emergencies.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling all medical information.
    • Ensure compliance with privacy regulations and organizational health and safety standards.
  • Sr Staff Team Responsibilities
    • Reinforce the camp philosophy, policies and standards by acting as a role model to the staff and being an active participant in the camp community.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to staff and campers.
    • Improve the effectiveness of the Health Care Team by providing clear communication and concise goals.
    • Ensure staff provide care to our campers that reflects the standards and guidelines of HOC’s Child Care Practices.
    • Accept responsibilities to maintain the Master Camp timetable.
    • Attend, organize and facilitate sessions and programming for Staff Orientation Week.
    • Attend the Senior Staff Training Weekend in the spring.
    • Be an active member of our Emergency Response Team, taking a leadership role in the training of camp procedures. 
    • Carry an assigned radio and be available in case of an emergency at all times.
    • Assist with all Sunday camper check-ins.
    • Complete weekly Health Care Duties as scheduled.
    • The Health Care Coordinator can expect between 8-10 hrs of scheduled duties daily, not including other duties as assigned based on camper/staff needs.
  • All Staff Responsibilities 
    • All staff are required to deliver every day our Brand Promise, “Best Summer Of Your Life”, in each camper and staff interaction. Guided by our four core principles: Community, Leadership, Accountability, and Performance.
    • All staff are expected to abide by and enforce the camp guidelines of respect. These are the rules and expectations of behaviour implemented to maintain a fun and safe camp environment.
    • All staff are responsible for the safety and security of each camper in their care. Staff are to follow prescribed program standards and lesson plans in order to ensure the highest level of care and instruction.
    • Attendance for all staff at the June orientation week training is mandatory. This training period is where each staff member will receive essential employment information and training for a successful summer experience.
    • Leadership and participation in camp-wide special events (All Camps, Friday Finale, Evening Programs) and weekly meetings are an expectation of all staff members.
    • The dynamic nature of summer camp demands that each staff member understand that additional duties may be assigned as required.

SUMMER BENEFIT AND TIME OFF

  • Room & Board Provided.
  • Weekly Staff Hockey & Water Skiing.
  • Time off will be scheduled on an as-needed basis up to the equivalent of a weekend off. Sunday Check-ins are a mandatory part of the Health Care Coordinator’s job responsibilities, and therefore, time off will be scheduled around this. Time off must be scheduled in advance with the Assistant Director(s).

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD

Employment Period: May 25th, 2026 – August 22nd, 2026

Wages: Summer wages vary depending on age, qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board are included


QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS

Qualifications: 

  • Completed at least a three-year Nursing Program or a 2-year Paramedic Program.
  • Experience supervising or teaching children; camp experience an asset.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and community-minded.
  • Willing to participate in all camp-related activities.

Certifications: 

  • Valid G driver’s license.
  • Bronze Cross (NL preferred).
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C or higher.
  • BLS Certification (preferred).
  • Respect in Sport certification.
