Job Title: Camp Doctor / Nurse Practitioner
Reports To: Camp Director
Number of Positions Available: 8 (one per week)


The Camp Doctor / Nurse Practitioner takes a lead role in our camper and staff's health and safety.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that appropriate care is provided to all campers and staff with medical needs.
  • Manage and supervise the Health Centre.
  • Handle first aid and medical issues as they arise.
  • Assist with the general camp community as time permits.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be on site for daily clinic hours as established.
  • Provide daily medical care for campers and staff as required.
  • Be on call and prepared to participate/take a lead role in crisis management/emergency response.
  • Diagnose medical issues and refer if necessary to local Medical Centre / Hospital.
  • Maintain a daily log of campers and staff who receive medical attention.
  • Write prescriptions as required.
  • Administer medications to campers and staff as required.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians any necessary information regarding campers or staff who require medical treatment.
  • Review medical forms/health history forms prior to registration day in order to discuss current and potential medical needs with parents at check-in.
  • Complete Health information sheets in order to provide special health needs information and directions to the appropriate camp staff (e.g. Sr. Staff, Kitchen, Hockey, Counsellor / Section Head, Activity Instructor).
  • Learn emergency action plan for all camp emergencies.
  • Ensure that all medications are organized and prepared to return to parents during check-out.
  • Maintain established policies and procedures for the Health Centre.
  • Review and possibly suggest areas to improve established policies and procedures for the Health Centre.
  • Inform Camp Director when Health Centre supplies need to be replenished and make recommendations regarding the improvement of the Health Centre/products / equipment.
  • Work directly with/alongside Nurse and Camper Care Assistant.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD

Employment Period: One week during our eight-week summer.


RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current status with the College of Physicians of Ontario or CFP / Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario (NPAO)
  • A minimum of 3 years experience.
