The role of Off Ice Hockey Instructor is one that demands hard work, creativity, group control and an enthusiastic attitude towards children. The Off Ice Instructor is required to follow a comprehensive teaching outline and ensure that all required components of the Dry Land program are taught during the course of the week. The Off Ice Instructor works directly with a Hockey Counsellor and a section of children. Dryland sessions are taught both indoors and outdoors, depending on the program and weather. All Hockey Staff live off camp property, but are required to be part of the camp community certain times during the week. Hockey staff are required to work on Sundays for camper registration.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:
Hockey Staff Orientation / Training: June 25th, 2008 – June 28th, 2008
Employment Period: June 29th, 2008 – August 23rd, 2008

WAGES:
Summer wages range from $2,600 - $3,200 per summer depending on qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board is included.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Must have a strong hockey and educational background.
- Genuine interest in teaching hockey skills, fitness and recreation to young hockey players.
- Must possess excellent verbal communications skills.
- Current certificate of Emergency First Aid, and CPR.
- Must be self-directed, and able to work effectively with a minimal amount of supervision.
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic and positive.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- To provide off-ice program and instruction according to curriculum designed by the Hockey Director, under the direction of the Head Instructor.
- Provide supervision for campers at the arena before or after ice sessions.
- Assist with supervision and utilization of counsellors in the hockey program.
- To serve as role models at the arena and at the camp, encouraging our campers to become better hockey players and people.
- As a member of our camp community, assist with providing for the health and welfare of our campers.
- Abide by the established camp policies.
- Provide care to our campers that reflects the standards and guidelines of the Hockey Opportunity Camp Code of Conduct
- Sign and abide by Hockey Opportunity Camp's Privacy Policy.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend hockey staff orientation to review: hockey program, job responsibilities, camp policies and emergency procedures.
- Assist with Sunday camper registration.
- The off-ice instructor will be required to work Monday - Friday from 8:30 - 4:30 pm with breaks in between.
- Assist the two youngest groups (Canadians / Leafs) with tying skates.
- Attend a Hockey Staff Meeting every Thursday night at camp at 10:00pm, followed by a General Staff Meeting with the rest of the camp staff.
- At meal times, assist with dining room supervision by sitting at the head of a table.
- At times, Hockey Staff may be required to assist the Hockey Director with various administrative tasks.
- Schedule with the Hockey Director your weekends off. Instructors working 7-8 week contracts get two weekends off. Instructors working 4-6 week contracts get one weekend off. The maximum number of instructors off per weekend is four.
- Ensure the Hockey Staff cabin is kept clean and orderly
- Share in the daily / weekly cleaning routines before inspection
- Any changes to shift assignments must be approved by the Hockey Director.
