Goalie Instructor Job Description

Job Title: Goalie Instructor
Report To: Head Instructor
Number of Positions Available: 3

Goalie Instructors at HOC teach two group sessions a day on the ice. A group session consists of a one-hour Power Skating session, and an hour and a quarter Skills session. Instructors are on the ice for an average 4-5 hours a day. Instructors are required to follow a comprehensive teaching outline, to ensure that all required goalie skills are taught during the course of the week. Instructors must show initiative by providing goalies with individual on-ice instruction when in a group setting. Our goalie program also has an off- ice component. Instructors use a puck-shooting machine to provide individual instruction to Goalies.

Each instructor is responsible for completing personal Player Evaluations each week for campers they directly instruct. All Hockey Staff live off camp property, but are required to be part of the camp community certain times during the week. Hockey staff is required to work on Sundays for camper registration and at the arena on Saturdays for the week ending scrimmage games. Room and board is provided as part of the employment contract.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:
Hockey Staff Orientation / Training: June 25th, 2008 – June 28th, 2008
Employment Period: June 29th, 2008 – August 23rd, 2008

WAGES:
Summer wages range from $2,600 - $3,200 per summer depending on qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board is included.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Must have a strong hockey background.
- Genuine interest in teaching hockey skills to children and teaching/instructing experience a definite requirement.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Current certificate of Emergency First Aid, and CPR.
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic and positive.
- Must be willing to take part in duties outside the defined job description.


GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
- While under the direction of the Head Instructor, provide goalie instruction according to the program designed by the Hockey Director.
- Serve as role models both at the arena and at the camp, encouraging our campers to become better hockey players and individuals.
- As a member of our camp community assist with providing for the health and welfare of our campers.
- Abide by the established camp policies.
- Provide care to our campers that reflects the standards and guidelines of the Hockey Opportunity Camp Code of Conduct
- On a weekly basis, complete accurate and informative camper evaluations.
- Sign and abide by Hockey Opportunity Camp's Privacy Policy.


SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
- Attend the Hockey Staff Orientation to review: the hockey program, job responsibilities, camp policies and emergency procedures.
- Assist with Sunday camper registration.
- Each instructor will be required to work with two groups each day, four on-ice sessions (Power skating and Skill sessions), and arrive at the arena 30 minutes before each shift, Monday to Friday.
- When assigned to the Intermediate/Senior group, instruct on Sunday evening and instruct a one-hour off-ice dry-land session per week.
- Assist Hockey Counsellors with dressing room and lobby supervision.
- Assist the two youngest groups with tying skates. (Canadiens / Leafs).
- Provide individual and small group instruction to goalies throughout the week.
- Player Evaluations are to be completed, submitted for review and stuffed by each instructor. All player evaluations are completed on a computer, and must be completed on time.
- Attend a Hockey Staff meeting every Thursday night at camp at 10:00pm, followed by a General Staff meeting with the rest of the camp staff.
- Assist with the Saturday scrimmage games as assigned by the Hockey Director.
- At meals assist with dining room supervision by sitting at the head of a table.
- Schedule with the Hockey Director your weekends off. Instructors working 7-8 week contracts get two weekends off. Instructors working 4-6 week contracts get one weekend off. The maximum number of instructors off per weekend is four.
- Ensure the Hockey Staff cabin is kept clean and orderly
- Share in the daily / weekly cleaning routines before inspection
- Any changes to shift assignments must be approved by the Hockey Director
