| Job Title: Camp Only Counsellor Report To: Day Camp/Camp Only Coordinator Number of Positions Available: 2-3 Our Camp Only program is designed for campers who come to Hockey Opportunity Camp that do not play hockey. Instead of spending half of the day at the arena, Camp Only's stay at camp and participate in two additional camp activities. Counsellors are hired to create and execute specific daily and special programming. Programming may include arts and crafts, theme/special days, low organizational games, land sports and water activities. Counsellors also assist/instruct Camp Only campers while they participate in camp activities. Activities include kayaking, snorkeling, board sailing, wet & wild, mountain biking, windsurfing, wall climbing, outdoor adventure and archery. Every week counsellors are responsible for writing personal evaluations on each camper they work with during the week. Evaluations are proof read and stuffed by Thursday night. In addition to responsibilities during the day, counsellors may also have evening cabin supervision responsibilities. Camp Only counsellors are not assigned their own cabin, but may be asked to assist other cabins with evening supervision. EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: Staff Orientation / Training: June 22nd, 2008 June 28th, 2008 Employment Period: June 29th, 2008 August 23rd, 2008 WAGES: Summer wages range from $1,600 - $2,400 per summer depending on age, qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board is included. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Minimum of 16 years of age. - Genuine interest in working with children. - Experience teaching and communicating children of varied ages. Specific camp experience an asset. - Minimum Bronze Cross Award. - Emergency First Aid and CPR certification. - Must be comfortable working independently. - Must be an enthusiastic, energetic and positive person. - Must possess strong creative programming skills. - Must possess strong group control skills. - Must possess strong initiative skills. - Must be willing to take part in camp related activities outside the defined job description. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: - Ensure that proper equipment use and safety rules are followed when instructing activities. - Provide care to our campers that reflect the standards and guidelines of the Hockey Opportunity Camp Code of Conduct. - Create and execute Camp Only programming that is age appropriate, productive, and fun. - Be an active participant in the camp community. - Sign and abide by Hockey Opportunity Camp's Privacy Policy. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY: - Attend Staff Orientation week in late June. - Be knowledgeable in all safety procedures: including fire, land and aquatic emergency procedures. - Complete work brigades Sunday morning before camper registration. - Assist Sunday camper registration. - Supervise children daily after their section has departed for the arena. - Create and execute complete lesson plans and themes for special activity days. - Keep Camp Only's inspired and motivated while in non structured programming. - Progressively evaluate camper's skill development, complete weekly camper evaluations and stuff in camper's achievement envelopes. - Attend Thursday evening "Study Hall" for evaluation writing when available. - Counsellors get one weekend off through out the summer. This is scheduled with the Camp Director at the beginning of the summer. - Ensure that each camper has the experience of their lives! |
