Day Camp/Camp Only Coordinator Job Description

Job Title: Day Camp/Camp Only Coordinator
Report To: Camp Director/Program Director
Number of Positions Available: 1

Working as a member of the HOC coordinating team, the Day Camp/Camp Only Coordinator's main role is to support and improve the effectiveness of the Day Camp and Camp Only programs. This role is facilitated by establishing clear and concise goals, updating program manuals, training and supervising staff in their roles and responsibilities and developing staff schedules.

In addition, all coordinators must adhere to three general expectations;

Role Model in the Camp Community
- Accept the responsibility to lead, motivate and evaluate staff in a positive environment.
- Accept the responsibility to personally abide by and enforce camp policies.
- Be a resource person for people with questions and concerns.

Supervisor and Evaluator of Camp Staff
- During supervisory shifts, accept the responsibility as "person in charge" for the safety of both campers and staff.
- Accept the shared responsibility in relieving a staff member of his/her duties should the need arise.
- Accept the responsibility to supervise staff activities on assigned Saturday nights.
- Accept the responsibility to train staff in your particular area during orientation week.
- Be responsible for supervising and evaluating staff members working in your program area or under your supervision.

As a Leader of the Camp Community
- Participate fully in daytime and evening camp programs such as all-camps, campfires, family night and staff meetings etc.
- Demonstrate a genuine compassion and care for both the professional and personal development of members of the camp community.
- Make a personal commitment to your fellow Coordinators to communicate and assist each other to the best of your abilities.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:

Staff Orientation / Training: June 20th, 2008 – June 28th, 2008
Employment Period: June 20th, 2008 – August 23rd, 2008

WAGES:
Summer wages range from $3,200 - $4,000 per summer depending on qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board is included.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program with preferred study in recreation management, education, early childhood development, physical education or personnel management.
- Administrative background with experience in supervising peers.
- Experience working with children of varied ages in a supervisory or teaching situation. Specific camps experience an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, evaluate and deal effectively with problem solving situations within the area of responsibility.
- Valid driver's license.
- Genuine interest in working with children in the community.
- Minimum Bronze Cross Award.
- Emergency First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic and positive person.
- Must be willing to take part in camp related activities outside the defined job description.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

- Reinforce the camp philosophy, policies and standards by acting as a role model to the staff and being an active participant in the camp community.
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff and campers.
- Act as a liaison between town office day camp committee, parents and camp staff for Day Camp program.
- Accept responsibilities to maintain over-all camp timetable.
- Improve the effectiveness of the Day Camp and Camp Only programs by establishing clear and concise goals.
- Ensure that proper equipment use and safety rules are followed by staff
- Ensure staff provides care to our campers that reflect the standards and guidelines of the Hockey Opportunity Camp Code of Conduct.
- Create and execute camp programming that is age appropriate, productive, and fun.
- Sign and abide by Hockey Opportunity Camp's Privacy Policy.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY:

Attend, organize and facilitate sessions and programming for Staff Orientation week in late June.
- Review program areas and make recommendations concerning program development, staffing needs and equipment improvements.
- Co-ordinate with town office regarding Day Camp registration and camper conduct.
- Work with Day Camp and Camp Only staff regarding program preparation including; lesson plans, teaching progressions, program standards, safety considerations, evaluation procedures, equipment inventories and individual timetables.
- Maintain Day Camp Database and attendance.

Make any transportation runs (ie. Clinic / hospital) that are required, provided that you are free at the time.
- Provide on-going supervision of programs through regular meetings and staff observations.
- Provide three written evaluations; after week #2, #4 and #6.
- Responsible for coordinating & supervising, discipline problems, emergency situations, arrivals and departures of campers.
- Attend Monday morning coordinator meetings
- Assist with Saturday check out and Sunday camper registration.
- Complete coordinator report for each program and update program manual at the end of the summer.
- Attend all and facilitate one Thursday evening staff meeting.
- Coordinators get one night per week and every other Saturday off. This is scheduled with the Camp Director at the beginning of the summer.
