| Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that all CIT applicants complete the HOC leader in training (LIT) program or equivalent (at other camp/organization). Individuals must have completed grade 10 and have a serious interest in working with children in order to qualify for this program. The CIT program is a four-week residential session that prepares candidates to work effectively with children in a camp community. During the session, candidates receive training in areas such as leadership, mentoring, counseling and activity instruction. Under the direction of a Staff Development Coordinator, the program is also designed to develop the interpersonal and professional skills of each participant. Other skills that are formed include; self esteem, self-confidence, communication, organization and goal setting.
