Date Message From Years on Staff Message
Oct. 5, 2006 David B. Lee 1973-1978 Hockey Opportunity Camp was a dynamic place for me to work starting when I was 22. I have many fine memories of great people that I worked with such as Al Murdoch (who I owe a great amount of thanks to...for "taking me with him" to HOC), the Bogensbergers (the first owners), Lance Barrs and the many Hockey Instructors. We are all very proud to work at HOC and I would love to come back for the next HOC Alumni reunion.
Oct. 28, 2005 Katie Hodges 1999-2000 Hey all, I'm so happy to have stumbled accross this site. My summers at HOC really don't seem like they were that long ago, but so much has happened since then. Those two summers were the best I'd ever had (despite the face plant over my handle bars), and where I met my two best friends in the entire world, Tats and Meliss. The kind of friends that can pick up right where we left off even though we sometimes go for months without speaking. It's so important for me to have that, especially in my line of work cause my sailing schedule can be so demanding. Having those friendships is awesome, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. If you want to drop me a line please do so, and if your ever in the East Coast (Halifax area) please call me. I have a nice new house with a guest room, and I'd love to see ya.
Sept. 28, 2005 Russell Latham 1999-2000 Finally found this place ;) Where to start... well I'm procrastinating from the piles of reading I have to do for Law school right now (I'm at UWO in london, ON). Polished off my undergrad in Computer Engineering at Waterloo in 2005... tonnes of other stuff since I've left my summer home in '05, but don't want to bore anyone. I've run into people I know (Rachel & Brooke!) and others that have the HOC bug, quite literally all over the world (well, none in Brazil or Morocco, but on a train in Italy & in Seattle, & in Windsor, & now here in London, ON). HOC was such a special time with so many special memories and truely memorable people. Well, I rant. I'll save the rest for the next reunion. Matt Simon - where the heck are you, buddy!?
Sept. 23, 2005 Dean Latham 1999-2000 I just heard about the reunion (about a year late) but better never late than never. Lance I'm sorry to hear that you passed on the directors position but I'm sure that Kevin and Sophie will do a great job. I think the campers are getting off pretty easy with no "Great Canadian Morning" being belted into the cabin at 5:30. It was nice to read everyone's bio so I thought I'd add my two cents. When I look over all the camp pictures I wish I could go back and do it all over again. Going to camp and being a counselor is something you can't fully appreciate until it's over. Thanks for the good times,
Sept. 15, 2005 Paul Macdonald 1991-1999 All is well down here in sunny Florida. I hope the whole HOC crew is doing great and still enjoying summer as much as we used to! I have been working super hard at remaining a waterski bum during the 6 years since HOC and succeeding! Biggest worried in life are sunburns and rough water - not bad. Shoot me an email to let me know where you are: mpmacdonald1@hotmail.com
July 23, 2005 Dean DeSilva 1985-1986 Still remember the great times shared and still talk about them with my kids. Plan on sending my kids to the camp in 2006.
June 22, 2005 Cory York 1999 hey everyone! its been a while! don't really know what to say. i allmost made it to the reunion which would of been a blast but i was unable to attend!
currently im living in Bombay (Mumbai) India, i travel alot between the two for work. i would love to hear from anyone from HOC, best years of my life!
May 26, 2005 Mark Brown 2000-2004 Alas it is the beginning of another great summer! This summer so far has found me overseas as part of the World Cup of Hockey and will find me in less exotic locations such as Mont Tremblant and various regions of the United States over the next few months. With the feeling that last summer was indeed my last summer I tried to sum up the meaning of HOC to me. HOC to me was a camp, it was hockey, but more importantly it was opportunity. Everybody has a dream of changing the worldÖ at HOC you get to do it everyday. When children come to me at mountain bike races and in hockey arenas with Mom, Dad, and their friends in tow as though Iím some kind of celebrity I know that I made a lasting impact. Never leave the camp until it is truly the right timeÖ not for money (student debt can be paid off), not for ambition, not for anything. My own camp hero ñ Matt Simon ñ left before he was truly finished. Judging by the posts so too did many on this alumni board. However, eventually everyone grows up Ö and thanks to Kevin for confirming what I felt in my heart. Exciting opportunities continue to be around every corner. But Iíll never forget HOCÖ I may be gone (outside of my name on a wall) but HOC will always be with me. Thanks to everyone for a tremendous timeÖ fell free to email me at markathoc@hotmail.com
April 8, 2005 Bruce Peterson 1976-1978 Hey what is going on?? I was at the previous alumni gathering and I had a great time. I was disappointed that noone got ahold of me for your reunion in Sep. 2004. I would of taken my family to this. I thought I had left information last time for you guys!!!! Anyway I really had a good time back in those days. Lance and Kathy were great friends of mine. They were very good to me. I really had fun back in those days. In fact I cannot believe some of the things I did in those days. Oh Myyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!! I guess I was young and foolish!!!! Anyway I would love to hear from alot of the former staff. I wonder what happened to Potsy, Bob Marian, John ____?, Joe and INgrid, etc. Rosy, Dave, and Jim Tomlinson , etc. I had a great time in those days. 1976 Olympics, a Rush concert, Brador beer, Island cookouts, camping in the cabin, Canoe trip to Algonquin park, shuffleboard, running club. playing basketball, USA vs Canada, Potsy stories and rhymes, barnacle Bill, getting Dave S. mad, that big brown dog, no hot water, Brador, downtown Sundridge, trips to North Bay, fishing for the big one, mikasoo man, camp fires, and skits, orinteering, Brador, and best of all trying to learn French. I miss all of those things, by gosh I am 52 now, so I am getting old!!!!!!!! Anyway if anyone wants to get in touch, give me a ring, or e-mail me. I want to here from you. Let me know about future reunions!!! I have stories!!!!!!
January 21, 2005 Chris Alarie 1998-2004 Hello to all. Hope everyone is doing well. Don't be shy to drop me a line via email. If you ever in the Barrie area feel free to swing by the ranch! cheers to all.
January 8, 2005 Ryan Turner 2001-2002 Although I only attended 1 and a half summers at h.o.c not a week goes by where i dont think of the good times and all the fun i had there. I will always remeber everything the awesome times I had, and if your in the t.o give me a ring, i would love to catch up on old times with some of the people that knew me 416-675-3112 ext.73005
November 23, 2004 Tim Kenney 1993-1996 Hey all!! I am so glad to have stumbled across this great website. I hope all's well; things have certainly been exciting for me in the past year... I just returned from a tour in Afghanistan this past February. Life's treating me well, my fiancÈe and I are living just outside Quebec City and we are expecting our first little one next June. Everyone please feel free to drop me a line, talk to you all soon..
September 30, 2004 Mark Jolin 1988, 1991 Sorry I couldnt' make the homecoming. Would have loved to play beach volleyball or bump down in the senior rec hall. Craig, man your still there. How awesome! Lance and Kathy, thanks so much for that job years ago. It was such a good training for what I do now. Much more practical than teacher's college. I'm still having fun working with kids as I'm teaching and coaching ball. Frequently run into kids that have been to the camp, and I recommend it to every hockey player in my class. Miss the GREAT CANADIAN MOOOOOORRRRRNNNNNIIIIIGGGGGG wake up call.
September 23, 2004 Jim Tomlinson 1977-1979 The reunion was a blast. Not too many people from my era Friday night but when Judy, Babs, Avery and Gascon showed up Saturday the memories started coming back to me. Its was great to see them but I also made some new friends. I won't miss the next reunion and I'll try to drag out some more 70's types! Does anyone know how to contact Steve Helstern, Richard Cameron, Dave Slemon, Art Primosch or Ken Brown???
September 19, 2004 Margaret Moore 1984-1986 It is Sunday, the reunion is over and I am making my way to Lance's house for one last goodbye. The memories are flooding my head as I am talking to Lance about my years at camp. I remember all the pranks we used to play, especially with the waterski staff. Jamie Barry was my rival as one prank lead to another. I especially remember leaning a very large garbage can filled with water against the door of his bunkhouse, however I also woke up with toothpaste all over my face the following morning. We got more creative as the summer went on. I also remember "bat patrol". Boy I have never seen a group of boys scream so much in my life. Then there was Adam U. he was always starting a water fight in the kitchen. Oh the stories could go on and on, however I would like to say Thanks to everyone I meet for making my summer's the best times of my life. Also, a special hi to Kevin, Tim, Matt, Phil, Sharon, Carol, Cathie and Kimberlee. Good Luck Kathy & Lance and welcome to Kevin & Sophie.
September 16, 2004 Larry King 1984-1985 I sure would love to hear what has happened with some of the staff from 84 and 85.
August 28, 2004 Dave Erven 1984-1992 Hi from the Kootenays! I am going to be a daddy soon - we are very excited. I'll keep in touch when I visit the cottage. Bye for now, Dave
August 17, 2004 Bub Lapierre 1994-1998 Wow! Not a summer goes by that I don't remember the good times I had at camp...that and being the only staff member to have the Emegency Response Team respond to him. Don't worry Lance I'm a nurse now I am qualified to do CPR on myself. Looking forword to seeing all of you in a a couple of weeks
August 12, 2004 Kevin Fuller 1984-1988 Reading through the Bulletin Board brings a flood of HOC memories back - playing "Name That Sound" with Nim; stealing ... oops catching ... chickens for Miller's cabin; smiles in the J (careful not to flip); the Barry Rash; nights at the Caz, ... Fun times had by all! I am looking forward to the September weekend, recalling times past and to build more memories that will last a lifetime.
August 12, 2004 Matt Carter 1987-1992 What a fantastic idea... A reunion so we can all see which program Murray Lamb is running this summer. I can't wait to see John Miller and his sexy moustache. Marge, can I have a re-do on my Bronze? I have a million questions -- can AJ still do the 'chicks in a canoe' move, can Grinoo still wrastle a 9.9 by the tow-rope, which one of the Michaud twins is running California right now, did anyone else see Big Bird on the beach, is Coach Keith handing out strides (and how do I get one), will Phil Katsikas tell us the Mikisew man with his hat-brim turned up, has anyone seen Elmer, who is the cutest daycamp girl of all time, how many HHH fellas will we see, can I be on Ozzy's team for capture the flag - and most importantly HOW ABOUT YOU GUY??? Hoppers!! See you in September.
August 8, 2004 Paul Weber 1984-1985 I think this is better than a high school reunion, at least the summers at Eagle Lake were a lot more fun than the off season at school. I'm looking forward to the seeing some faces from the past and having a drink legally. See you next month. Oh yeah...is the skunk gone from the outdoor shack yet?
August 5, 2004 Andrew Hodges 1994-1998 Looking forward to seeing everyone in September - Spanky
August 4, 2004 John Miller 1984-1991 How time passes! I spent last weekend catching up with an old friend,Tim Smith. We laughed and shared stories for two days, not one regret did either of us have surrounding our time at HOC. We both agreed we couldn,t not attend the Fall Reunion! Looking forward to catching up with some amazing people! Does anyone know where the Mexican is slumped over these days?
August 3, 2004 Barry Gascon 1978-1980 Hi to all the gang at HOC. Sorry to hear that the camp will no longer feature Lance Barrs waking the campers with the news that it is another beeeyoutiful Canadian morning! Now that my nephew is a camper after my being there in the seventies (Lord, did I say seventies!) it would be nice to walk the campgrounds and see first hand all the changes and a few familiar faces. Hoping to make it come September. If not, best of luck in the future to each and everyone of you.
August 2, 2004 Fred Johnstone 1984-1985 Missed most Of the last as my wife was having a baby at the same time. Will not miss this one for the same reason. Hope to see lots of the old crew for a few brew-skis.
July 28, 2004 Jerry Atto 1994-1995 Wow! It is definitely a blast from the past seeing all of the names on the bulletin board. Every name I read is bringing back many memories from the past, considering I spent almost every summer of my childhood at HOC. Congratulations to Lance and Kathy for many successful summers. Good luck to Kevin and Sophie. I believe that you will keep HOC going strong for years to come. Its been about 10 years since I've been to Sundridge, maybe its time for a road trip??
July 26, 2004 Robyn Lawrie 1992-1997 Congratulations Kevin and Sophie and best of luck to you Lance and Kathy on your next endeavours. I'm currently living in San Francisco so unfortnuately I won't be able to make the trip to the reunion. I am very jealous of all of you that will get some Eagle Lake time! Look forward to reconnecting.
July 26, 2004 Amy Dunk 1988-1989 Hey all, it's been awile eh. I'm wondering if I'll know half of you by appearance. This reunion is a great idea, and I look forward to seeing everyone. Be there or be square people. B.F.N. Amy Dunk
July 23, 2004 Donnie Fuller 1984-1988 It is hard to believe that LB and Kathy will no longer be with HOC. The three are synonomus with each other. I want to wish them all the best and also to write and say that I was very privalaged to be a part of their staff. As well as getting to know and working with a great bunch of people, some of whom I am still able to keep in contact with. For this I am grateful. I am hoping to attend the reunion and meet up with former staff members to tell some stories and a few laughs. Perhaps a trip to the Caz as well. Does Stu still owe LB money after working for the summer?
Thank you Lance and Kathy for a wonderful opportunity of working with you, the staff and of course, the camper at HOC!!!!
July 19, 2004 Heather Wittland 1993-1994 The most memorable summers of my life for sure! Congratulations LB and Kathy... and of course to Kevin and Sophie! Well... to make a long story short, I've been married for almost 7 years (time flies!), and we have a 6 year old girl (Emma) who is awesome! I finally finished by BA in Kinesiology and just graduated teachers college with Junior/Intermediate qualifications! I can't wait to see so many of you!
July 11, 2004 Eric Harkness 1989 Wow, can not believe how time flys! Its great to see some of the names from the past. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion in September.
July 6, 2004 John FitzGibbon 1995-1998 Hey dudes, Fitzy, letting everyone know where I am, in guelph finishing the masters right now (hopefully) planning on moving to U of Wisconsin in the fall for my Ph.d. Anyways you wanna get a hold of me drop me an email fitzgibj@uoguelph.ca
July 5, 2004 Erin Churchill 1992-1993 Wow - it's been a long time since I've been anywhere near camp, but it's never been far from my mind. I'm in school - working on the third degree (it's either that or get a real job), currently in a co-op MBA program. Can't wait for the reunion...but in the meantime if anyone would like to catch up, send me an email and let me know what's up!
June 4, 2004 Heather Hall 1992-1998 Wow! I am very excited to reconnect with all of you at the reunion! In the words of Rachel Smith, "You won't believe how much I've matured guys!" Looking forward to this!
June 1, 2004 Anita Cunningham 1990-1991 A stroll down memory lane on rainy day in New Zealand. I'm currently living and teaching in New Zealand (Northland, North Island)at a smallish secondary school with some seriously challenging students. I won't go into details as they might discourage others from coming here or entering the teaching profession. This is my first summer away from Eagle Lake in awhile - I miss the loons and hearing the deafening sounds that radiate down the lake to our cottage on Sunday nights from the camp!! Unfortunately I'll still be here teaching for the reunion - I come home Christmas 2004 for good! Canada is home. Drop me a line and let me know where/how you are!
May 20, 2004 Jordan Bolton 1994-1995 Good to see so many names!!! Every now and again I run into another alum, but seeing this list reminds me of how many of you I miss. I'm glad to hear everyone's doing so well and I hope to see you all at the reunion. Big thanks to LB and KB for the BEST summers of my life!
May 10, 2004 Ryan Collings 1997-2003 Hope everyone is doing well, and I'm looking forward to seeing you at the reunion!
April 16, 2004 Trevor Black 2002-2003 Good Day, Hope everyone is having a blast in whatever it is they are doing!!! And don't forget GO LEAFS GO!!!
April 14, 2004 Adam Uzelac 1986-1992 Hey all! Boy oh boy, scrolling through the names on the list of alum sure did bring back some memories. I just want to thank LB and KB for taking the chance with all of us. Talk about bold putting a bunch of hormonal freak-shows together to take care of a bunch of kids. Now that I have kids of my own...what an awesome responsibility those two had! I sure did a lot of growing up there and learned some real valuable lessons, both as a camper and staff member. Thanks LB and KB!!! My summers in the Great White North were the BEST!!!
April 5, 2004 Ryan Carson 1996-1999 What a great idea! When Pete told me about this event I knew I had to cancel the honeymoon plans to Anitgua and book it for the Casbar!!! "The much better half" didn't like this idea, so the wedding date was moved up for this reunion, so it better be like old times!! I often think about all the good times we shared at HOC and what Keith Murray once said, "HOC has definitely been good for this kid", and like so many of us it has! LB and Kathy were not only bosses but friends and mentors to many of us, and I just think this is an another testement to the kind of people they are. I can't wait to see the Senator section (Fitzy, Pete, Simon), the waterski boys, the lone negro and everyone else. Maybe the ski staff will be able to get me up bare footing!!! Peace out and Have a great summer!

March 19, 2004 Phil Katsikas 1983-1986 Hey everyone! Hope you are all well. I'd love to make it this fall, but we'll see. Just sold our townhome so Josiane and I are feverishly looking for a house. Not an easy task in the current Vancouver market. Drop me an e-mail and say "Hi". If you're in the Vancouver area, come say "Hi" in person.
March 18, 2004 Cathie Gutjahr 1984-1991,1997-1998 Greetings everyone! This is a fantastic idea! I am so excited to see everyone again. The memories have come flooding back and I find myself wishing that I could go back and be 18 again just so I could spend another summer at H.O.C. I'd love to hear from some old pals, so drop me a line if you have a chance.
March 5, 2004 Kelly Othmer 1997-2000 Hey Team! What an amazing idea! So glad to hear from everyone. I'm in my last semester at Guelph right now and loving every minute of it! I can't wait to hear from all of you. Take Care everyone. Kelly O
March 3, 2004 Jordan Penic 1997-2001 To whomever may read this...It's hard to do as so much time has passed since my last visit to HOC, but I do frequently think back to my days at camp. In fact, the longer it seems I'm away, the more I appreciate what I had. I remember waking up on those early mornings to get the campers off to the rink, and how I so hated the 6:15 wake-up (please tell me it never got earlier than that!!). But most of all, I remember the sense of belonging, the friendships, and the smiles on the campers faces as they went from activity to activity without ever having the chance to miss being home. I remember the sense of freedom as I was miles away from any stress surrounding my life, and being able to sit peacefully on the beach and watch the sun set to the calls of the loons. It all seems so perfect in my mind now, but for some reason I gave it up to work office jobs in the city (silly thing to do). I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say in this message, but one thing is for certain, especially for those reading this while you are spending your days at camp. Enjoy every minute you spend up there, and take in as much as you can. This will be the time that defines who you are, and in many ways who you will be in the future. I know I learned so much about myself up there, and I can only think back in jealousy of all of you, about how much I miss camp, and also how much I had to give up when I left.I hope everyone's dreams are coming true, and I can't wait to see so many familiar faces again in September.
March 3, 2004 Maegan Duquette 2000 I was only there for one summer but it was a summer of memories!
March 2, 2004 Kourtney Adamson 1997-2000 Great to hear that another reunion is in the works, can't wait to see everyone again, some of my best and most memorable friends were made at HOC. See you all soon. Kourtney
March 2, 2004 Cris Osborne 1997-2000 Just found out about the reunion from Hodgy (Matt Hodges) @ a Toronto Rock Laccrosse game! Cant wait! Toooooooo many great memories to pass it up! Ozzy will be in full attendance this year! Til the summer boys and gyals!
Feb 19, 2004 Kevin Barry 1983-1984 Hope to see you in September!
Feb 18, 2004 Karen Lyons 1998-1999 It has been a couple years since I have been to camp, but I haven't forgotten some of the great summers at H.O.C. Currently I am a teacher in Mississauga at Loyola C.S.S, teaching physical education and mathematics. I am playing Rep hockey again this season in the North Metro Girl's Hockey League. To my surprise, I have just recently been appointed as assistant captain to the World Traveling Team and will be going overseas in June 2004 to represent Canada to play against local club teams as well as the New Zealand National team. The goal of the tour is promote hockey in countries that are underdeveloped in the sport. I never thought I would ever have a chance to do something like this, and I am anxiously awaiting June to arrive. I hope I will have a chance to see some of you when I return, especially the few staff that I have kept in contact with. Hope you are all well.
Feb 14, 2004 Jamie Barry 1987-1989 Looking forward to it - would be great to have a beer with some of the old crew... Judy, John, Nicki, Anne, Pete, Adam, Dave, Troy, Fith, Vince, Paul and Donski?
Feb 10, 2004 Kim Simpson 1993-1998 Hi all...I just got really excited when I saw all the familiar names and read all your great news. I'm just back to Canada from a work placement in West Africa and checked in on the website to see what was new. Nothing like making me feel like I'm back home than good news from the HOC crowd! Can't wait to catch up with everyone. Cheers, The Simp.
Feb 4, 2004 Amanda Warvill 2001-2002 Hey all! I was just thinking about camp the other day then I got the alumni email! Some of my best memories are at HOC! Hope everyone is well, and please keep in touch! I would love to see everyone at the reunion! Things are going good for me! Ken and I are getting married next spring and school is going great(even if it looks like no end in sight)! Miss you all!! :)
Jan 28, 2004 Paul McLean 1995-1997 Steve Botterill just told me about this tonight. It ís such a great idea and a reunion would be a blast. Whenever I drive through Sundrige/South River on my treks to North Bay the whole ride is one big trip down memory lane. I am living in Toronto, finishing school, working for Loblaws and coaching a team of eight and nine year olds in a free house league run for kids in the area around Regent Park. I'm having a great time in Toronto and even got to coach at the ACC last weekend. The lessons I learned at HOC, even those discovered the hard way, always seem to find new relevance as the years go by. Every summer since I left HOC I've missed the friends and laughs, the fun and sun, and even the rumour mill and drama. I am looking forward to seeing everyone from my favourite summers spent at HOC.
Jan 26, 2004 Michelle Stillar 1985-1995 Hello everyone...I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. A special Hello to Jeff O. and Adam U if he ever signs on to the page!
Jan 26, 2004 Nicki Kerkhoven 1984-1990 Dzien Dobry from Poland!! What a great idea to do the bulletin board! I have enjoyed reading notes from old friends! HOC has so many great memories! There is really something special about working together with a team of really positive people that's sole purpose is to ensure that everyone is proud of themselves, and having a good time! All within a beautiful outdoor setting! My husband, Doug and I have worked in quite a few schools, in 4 different countries and have been extremely fortunate to find all of these qualities in a work experience...but never since HOC have I found them all coexisting in the same place! Who could forget what it was like to wake up with Mona (camp dog) in your bed, bat patrol, rockin' the Casbah with the motorcyle gang, mud sliding in slickers, the Arriss Affliction, Aussie rules frisbee football, banana popsicles on the tuck card (or not), mudbaths at the rapids, blue margheritas and pepperoni bread and so many other great memories. I'd love to hear from folks....and if you are ever in Poland and need a place to stay..."nuestra casa es su casa!" nicoline@pobox.com
Jan 22, 2004 Gabe Ryckman 1996-2001 It's great to read messages from everyone. They bring back lots memories of all the great summers I spent at HOC. I can't wait to see everyone (or anyone!) soon. P.S. As R. Smith has begun a comprehensive list of all of her nicknames I feel compelled add a few: "Mare", "Black Beauty", and my own personal favorite, "Spunky Brewster". There's plenty left!
Jan 21, 2004 Brooke Smith 1998-2003 Hello Everyone! From humble beginnings as Tuck Girl to the esteemed position of Admin Co-ordinator, (alright, maybe not THAT esteemed)I grew up with HOC. Thanks to all past staff members for the great memories and may the future generations of HOC continue our legacy and our legend... that is, ROCK THE CAS BAR into eternity!
Jan 21, 2004 Gilbert Lalande 2003 I had a great time at HOC. The people I met and the experiences I had will be part of me forever. I'm greatful for everyone who was on the Summer 2003 Staff and helped make it memorable. Hope to see you guys in the near future.
Jan 20, 2004 Rob Wakulat 1993-1998 It's awesome to see an Alumni Site! Way to go guys! Somehow I finally peeled myself away from three years of teaching English in Japan and I'm back in Toronto! Please feel free to drop in or drop a line any time - rwakulat@canada.com I've wondered how to get back in touch with all the wonderful people I met at HOC. I'm sure some of you have gone to do some amazing things in this world and I look forward to hearing about them sometime! I can say that at least one song - Boogaloo - made it's way into the heads of impressionable English students in Japan! The reunion sounds awesome! -Wacky Duck
Jan 18, 2004 Frank Kennedy 1982-1984 Hello to all present and former HOC Staff! Great to see a website like this. I missed the last reunion, so I'm looking forward to the next one in the Fall. It's nice to see that HOC was (and is) as important to many of the more recent staff as it was to the staff in earlier years! I know that even after twenty years, some of the memories of those summers will never fade. Friday night water-ski shows, barefoot pyramids, late-night kitchen raids, late-night swims, casino nights, Crickets, Caswell's, Sunday morning clean-ups, and end of the summer staff parties are just a few of the highlights that bring a smile to my face! It's hard to believe that some of the junior waterskiers are now in their mid to late twenties! And Chad isn't a baby anymore? Instead, he's going to be our next "Donald Trump"!! Great website, thanks to all.
Jan 18, 2004 Jeff Graham 1989-1991

1995-1997

Wow, it was great to see familiar names of the past! I had the great opportunity to re-kindle my connection with HOC this past summer (2003) as Lance, Craig and myself worked on bringing HOC in the new generation of technology with a promotional DVD! A little advancement from the 1992 promotional VHS tape. I am currently working as a High School teacher in the Caledon area north of Toronto in a Communications Technology field and of course use all of our technology toys to produce documentaries, short films etc. I will be returning to HOC this summer to complete the final draft of the DVD and I hope it will all be complete by Fall 2004. Hmmmm, maybe an alumni video is in order for this fall?
Jan 13, 2004 Judy Smith 1974-1988 Hard to believe that LB, KB and I have been friends for such a long time. Unbelieveable is the fact that my son will be at HOC this summer to do all the things we as former and future staff plan for, look forward to, and implement so well. To all the crazy fun loving people who I worked with, it is still a kick to remember some of the things we as a staff did whether in camp with kids, or as a group. I wonder if the flag pole gets used as much as it did when we worked there, or the does anybody have to hide their car about three days before they leave camp so it isn't "picked "up and hidden somewhere? Do you still do "smile rides" in the big boats? Looking forward to Gord's experience this summer (He is named Gordon Howard for all you Detroit Fans) and the get togther this summer. Thanks Craig and Kimberlee! ... Judy
Jan 8, 2004 Kimberlee Stillar 1989-2001 I am glad to see the Bulletin Board and Where Are They Now? filling up...but there are hundreds of people out there who have worked at HOC! If you know how to get in touch with someone who has not visited the site yet please encourage them to do so! The old nostalgic people like me check the site often and love to see what old friends are up to. To anyone that I have worked with over the years please drop me quick email some time!
Jan 7, 2004 Jeff O'Farrell 1989-1995 It's great to see so many familiar names - names that bring back a lot of memories. I am alive and kicking in Whitehorse, Yukon and have been since 1996. A reunion on the sunny shores of Eagle Lake sounds like fun, especially as I missed the last one. I am going to be in New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia from February to August but I will try to keep posted. P.S. Is the Pha-Pha Truck still around?
Jan 7, 2004 Amanda Crosby 2001 Hey guys! HOC was one of the best summer's ever! Filled with memories and awesome times! Keep in touch everyone! I miss it everyday!
Jan 3, 2004 Chris Van Eynde 1999 To all old staff members, this is a big gday from Aussie! Hope you are all doing well and following in the steps of your hopes and dreams. Im a very stable, father now, surprising I know and I am getting into growing plants etc, sounds bloody old! Im also off to Hawaii next year hopefully to try and make it for the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon after qualifying for the Australian championships. hope you all wish to travel sometime and are all very welcome to come and see me! keep smiling Aussie xx
Jan 2, 2004 Sarah Blanchard 2001-2003 Hi everyone, i hope you are all having a good year, and i hope to see you ALL next summer! i can't wait.
Dec 24, 2003 Matt Simon 1998-2001 The last few years seem to have escaped wtithout me even noticing. A lot has happened, and a lot of ground has been covered. No matter how far back HOC seems to be in my past, it's memories, and life lessons are always right beside me. They always seem to pop up no matter where I go or what I do. A summer ago in Jasper, Graduated, and now working as a paramedic, and yet still HOC is still very much a part of me, and that gut feeling I get whenever I think of my times at HOC. If you knew me, feel free to give me a write, slalomaverick@hotamil.com, cheers!
Dec 19, 2003 Tim Fricker 2002-2004 Hey everyone! Looking forward to seeing everyone at interviews this weekend. Who knows, I may still be back for another summer. If not, take care of yourself, and enjoy your summers in Sindridge. I know HOC has been an incredible experience for me
Dec 19, 2003 Mike Wanless 2001-2003 Hey, if anyone is ever near Oakville, or the lovely Sault Ste. Marie area, gimme a call or an email, I always have time for camp people!
Dec 18, 2003 Melanie Jolliffe 2000-2004 Hey my summers at HOC have been the best lots of memories! This page is a sweet idea, I will be at the reunion in a heart beat.
Dec 18, 2003 Ashlee McAvoy 2002-2003 Hey, How has everyone been doing? Well I hope you all enjoy your hoildays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
Dec 18, 2003 Meagan Macdonald 2000-2001 Had a lot of awesome memories and great friends at HOC that I will never forget. What helped me determine my future career was actually something that wise man Lance Barrs said to me about how I should be looking towards teaching. I think a reunion is such a great idea! I really am looking forward to it!
Dec 17, 2003 Angele Trottier 1989-1994 I am glad to hear of a reunion coming up. I hope I will be able to attend. I can't wait to see everyone again.
Dec 17, 2003 Jesse Guscott 1994-2000 What a great idea, its great to hear from so many names from the past. I can't wait to see the matching familiar faces. I've said it before, I don't know who I'd be if it wasn't for HOC but its not the person I am today. So many of the things I learned at HOC continue to help me everyday and some of the best friends I've ever had were made at HOC. Looking forward to reconnecting with you all in the coming months. Take care. jesse (the lone negro). (I guess its Dr. lone negro now)
Dec 16, 2003 Rachel Smith 1994-2001 What a great idea!! I can't wait to find out what everyone is up to!!! I am happily married to a true northern chap (we fell in love at the Cas Bar - he must be a keeper!), and we decided that nothern Ontario isn't cold enough for us, so we have moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta. I do manage to make it home to the 'Ridge every few months, however. I still appreciate a good night at the local watering hole, a hearty meal and a good joke (funnily enough, I am usually still the person the joke is directed at!) I would love to hear what wonderful things all of you have accomplished - please drop me a line if the names "Rat", "Psycho Rose", "Blackbeard" or "Dolores" bring back any fond (or frightening) memories.
Dec 16, 2003 Rachel Porter 2000-2002 Hey Everyone!! What a great idea this is! I can't wait till the reunion next fall! I miss you HOC people so much! Hope everyone is doing well! Send me an email sometime! Rach :)
Dec 16, 2003 Matt Murphy 2001-2004 Hey whenever you are in TO whether I have heard from you in two years or not give me a shout cause I am always up for a few drinks. Murph
Dec 16, 2003 Tatiana Srutwa 1997-2001 Hey everyone! I absolutly love this! Low and behold I was thinking about good ol' HOC and everyone I havn't seen in ....forever, and this lovely website comes along! Thanks to the makers of this wonderful site and hello to all! Have a wonderful holiday!
Dec 15, 2003 Pam Leeder 1996-2000 Greetings from the crazy kitchen girl. Hope all is well with everyone!
Dec 12, 2003 Chris Luscombe 1997-2000 Its still a rare day when memories of HOC don't pop in my head. Ryan and I will be there in a heart beat for a Fall Reunion. This website is a great idea. If anyone is ever in Michigan drop me line.
Dec 12, 2003 Ryan Luscombe 2000-2002 Hey everyone... I feel like such a kid looking at some of the names that have stopped by this site. I was very happy to find this email today, especially since I was just day dreaming in class today about HOc and all of the fun times I had. I spent something like 13 crazy summers at that place and I'll never forget it.
Dec 11, 2003 Paul Macdonald 1991-1999 Hope everyone is doing well and having as much fun as possible. This is a great way for everyone to keep in touch. Thanks. If you knew me at camp, shoot me an email, I'd love to hear what you are up to.
Dec 11, 2003 Cam Johnson 1990-1997 Love to hear what everyone is up to, drop me a line.
Dec 11, 2003 Stephanie Elliott 1991-1995 Wow what a great idea! I just happened to be bragging about HOC with some of my staff members this aftertoon. Although I have been away from the camp for quite a few years I think of it often. I miss the fun activities, the atmosphere, and especially the people. I hope everyone is doing well and hopefully I will get to participate in the reunion in the fall. Take Care!
Dec 11, 2003 Rodney Winchester 1996-2000 Well hello everybody, long-time!!! Lance a reunion would be fantastic, to see everybody again would be unbelievable (oh and maybe to tell the odd new joke i have logged in my bank of funnies). I hope everyone is doing well, im doing just fine. It almost seems that i am in a little HOC here in St. Catherines with all the old and present staff around this area (but its just not the same as good ol' sunny south river). Well, everybody take care, Hope to hear from many of you in the coming months (via e-mail). Have A Happy Holiday Season, Take Care....GUNNER
Dec 10, 2003 Jim Evershed 1983-1984 Two of the most enjoyable Summers I have ever spent. You could not have ask for a better group of Hockey Staff to be associated with as well as the rest of the staff. Both my Daughters have attend HOC (Kelsey)2001 and (Hayley)2003 and 2004.
Dec 10, 2003 Kim Harper 1991-1997 Hey HOC! This is a great site! I'm in Mexico but will be home in Canada over the holidays. Will be in Sundridge from December 20th to 27th at my mom's, then in Unionville at Carl's parents place until January 3rd. I'd love to hear from you. kcolier2001@yahoo.ca
Dec 10, 2003 Janna Gribble 1996 I'm now the token Californian that many assumed when I arrived at camp due to my blond hair and blue eyes. I got married in August and am back in school to become a high school teacher. That must be a huge surprise since nearly no one who works at HOC becomes involved in education. A reunion would be awesome. I was already telling the hubby that I wanted to take him north of the border this year and visit the camp. Being able to see friends along with family would make it that much better!
Dec 10, 2003 Andy Johnson 1988-1993 This is a great idea! I missed the last one and have been regretting it ever since. I'll do my best to make this one and hope everyone is doing well.
