JOB DESCRIPTION

Activity Instructors are hired to teach a specific activity. The daily routine is to instruct approximately 6, one-hour classes each day to campers of all ages. Instructors are responsible for teaching campers the safety requirements of their activity, as well as a series of skills based on the established awards system already in place at HOC.

Activity instructors are required to maintain their program areas and equipment, ensuring adequate equipment supply and safety. Every week instructors are responsible for writing personal evaluations on each camper they teach during the week. Evaluations are proof read and stuffed by Thursday night.

Activity staff do not have evening responsibilities in cabins with children every night, but are required to assist one night a week on Counsellor night off, with Evening Activities, and with All Camp activities.

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:
Staff Orientation / Training: June 22nd, 2008 – June 28th, 2008
Employment Period: June 29th, 2008 – August 23rd, 2008

WAGES:
Summer wages range from $1,600 - $3,000 per summer depending on qualifications and experience of applicants. Room and board is included.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- A minimum of 17 years of age.
- Bronze Cross swimming qualification for all activity instructional staff. This applies to both land and water activity staff.
- Must be provincially certified and/or be experienced on the instructor level in the program you intend to instruct.
- Possess the ability to teach and communicate with varied ages of campers.
- Possess strong group control skills.
- Current certificate of Emergency First Aid and CPR
- Must be an enthusiastic, energetic and positive person.
- Must be willing to take part in camp related activities outside the defined job description.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

- Ensure that both campers and staff in your activity area follow proper equipment use and safety regulations.
- Provide care to our campers that reflect the standards and guidelines of the Hockey Opportunity Camp Code of Conduct
- Teach classes that are age appropriate, productive, and fun.
- Be an active participant in the camp community.
- Sign and abide by Hockey Opportunity Camp's Privacy Policy.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY:

- Attend our Staff Orientation week in late June.
- Be knowledgeable in all safety procedures: including fire, land and aquatic emergency procedures.
- Complete work brigades Sunday morning before camper registration.
- Assist Sunday camper registration.
- Develop complete lesson plans for all classes taught.
- Creatively develop and build the integrity of the activity program.
- Teach 60-minute classes in program areas (6 classes/day approx.), plus possible Program Development Time.
- Actively participate in and assist with;
- Evening activities twice per week
- All Camp activities once per week
- Friday Family Nights weeks 3 and 6
- Evening cabin supervision once per week.
- Progressively evaluate camper's skill development, complete weekly camper evaluations/certificates and stuff in camper's achievement envelopes.
- Complete daily attendance sheets and head counts for each class.

- Attend mandatory Thursday evening "Study Hall" for evaluation writing
- Work one "Duty Weekend" which entails participation at the Friday night campfire, Friday evening cabin supervision (if required) and provide programming and supervision for holdover campers Saturday and Sunday.
- Activity Instructors get one weekend off through out the summer. This is scheduled with the Camp Director at the beginning of the summer.
- Ensure that each camper has the experience of their lives!
