Hockey Training . . . both on and off the ice
Our Hockey Program is designed to challenge players at all levels of playing ability. Drills are designed to challenge each camper individually, emphasizing both technical and tactical skill development. Each day children take part in a power skating session (1 hr), skill development session (1.25 hr) and dry land training (1.5 hr). Our hockey instructors are hired for their personal hockey experience, coaching and instructional background. In addition, they have a sincere interest in working with young players to support the development of youth hockey. Our program ensures that all campers develop to their fullest potential. All players take home a written evaluation based on their development over the week.
Goalie Program
Our specialized Goalie Program continues to be an attraction at HOC. Goalies receive on-ice individual instruction from one of our three goalie instructors. In addition, off-ice training using our puck-shooting machine keep goalies challenged and provide a great learning environment. Goalies take part in both power skating and skills sessions. Skill development includes techniques such as: stick rotations, blocker / trapper / body saves, pull / push or drive leg, partial recoveries, stationary / gliding pivots, butterfly / half butterfly saves.
Girls Hockey
As reported by Hockey Canada, womens hockey is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with more than a 400% increase in participation in the last ten years. Proving that statistic, available spots for female hockey players at HOC quickly fill as more girls show their interest in furthering their hockey training. Our Hockey Program is integrated so that instruction is not gender based, but rather age and skill level appropriate. Female campers have separate accommodations and are counselled by female staff.
